Supporting a child who is out of school or anxious about school
When school has become a struggle, gentle and patient support can help a child start learning again.
You're not on your own
So many families end up here. School anxiety, a long time off, or a child who's simply switched off from learning. It's exhausting and worrying, and it isn't your fault.
Start small
Pushing rarely helps. Short, calm lessons at your child's own pace can slowly rebuild their trust in learning. Learning from home, online, can feel a lot less scary too.
A real story
One parent told us their child had been out of school for most of the year and wouldn't engage with any learning at all. Their tutor was patient and calm and never pushed. Little by little, the child started opening up and even doing Maths again.
Keep talking to school and your GP
If anxiety or health is part of it, keep school and your GP in the loop. Tuition works best as one part of a wider circle of support.
