Alongside running the agency, I work for a major examination board. I lead and support a team of examiners, and I also write and review assessment questions, including questions that go on to appear on live examination papers. This gives me an unusually detailed understanding of assessment, standards and what students are really being asked to demonstrate.
My years in the classroom and in senior leadership prepared me for every part of running the agency: safeguarding, recruitment, staff development, pastoral care and supporting families. I know what excellent teaching looks like, and how important it is to find the right person for each child.
That is why I personally oversee the selection of our tutors and take great care over every match. Strong qualifications matter, but they are only part of the picture. I look for tutors who communicate clearly, build trust and understand the student in front of them.
Every tutor on our team is a fully qualified teacher who works in full-time education, so they know what's happening in schools right now. Many are also GCSE examiners who mark the actual exam papers. That means they can help students understand what earns marks, avoid common mistakes and feel more confident about their answers.
Why I started Ashcroft Tutoring Agency
After years in school leadership, I had seen how much difference the right support can make, and what happens when a child loses confidence or doesn't connect with their teaching. I wanted an agency where the child is known, parents feel supported and every match is made with real care.
I still tutor English myself as a GCSE specialist, and I lead a small, carefully selected team who share the same approach.
