Frequently asked questions
What does Ashcroft Tutoring Agency do?
We provide specialist one-to-one tuition, online only, for students aged 8 to 18 in England and around the world, in English, Maths, Science and the humanities, from KS2 through to A-Level.
What are your three main services?
After-school tuition for children in school who want to catch up or get ahead, daytime homeschooling support for home-educated children, and flexi-schooling for academy footballers and young athletes who miss school for their sport.
Do you teach during the school day for home-educated children?
Yes. Daytime lessons are a big part of what we do. You can choose one or two subjects or build a fuller weekly timetable.
What is flexi-schooling and who is it for?
Flexi-schooling is when a child learns partly in school and partly elsewhere. Ours is for young athletes, such as academy footballers, who need to keep up with schoolwork while they train and compete.
Can you support academy footballers and young athletes who miss school?
Yes. We plan lessons around training and fixtures and focus on the work they've missed. Lessons are online, so they can join from home, a hotel or a training camp.
Do you teach children outside the UK?
Yes. We teach families all over the world, including expat families and children at international schools.
How do lesson times work with China, Hong Kong and other Asian time zones?
Really well. A morning lesson in the UK lands in the late afternoon or early evening in Asia, just after school. For example, 9am in the UK is 4pm in Beijing in summer and 5pm in winter.
Do you teach the British curriculum to international students?
Yes. Our tutors are fully qualified UK teachers, all working in full-time education, and our team includes GCSE examiners. They teach the British curriculum, from KS2 to A-Level.
Who are the tutors?
All our tutors are fully qualified teachers who work in full-time education, so they know today's curriculum and classrooms well. Many are also GCSE examiners who mark the actual exam papers. Every tutor is personally selected by our founder, Rebecca Ashcroft, a qualified teacher and former Assistant Headteacher.
Why does having a GCSE examiner as a tutor help?
Many of our tutors mark real GCSE exam papers, so they understand how the mark schemes are applied and the mistakes that cost students marks. They help your child practise clear answers, use evidence and understand what each question asks. It isn't about knowing the questions in advance or guaranteeing a grade. It's about helping your child show what they know with confidence.
How will I know how my child is getting on?
Every parent receives a detailed lesson report after each session, covering what was taught, how your child is progressing and what they need to work on next.
Do you offer face-to-face lessons?
No, we only teach online. No tutor will visit your home. Teaching online means we can match your child with the tutor who suits them best, wherever you live, in England or abroad, and lessons fit more easily around family life.
How do online lessons work?
Lessons take place live on Bitpaper, a secure interactive whiteboard where tutor and student can write, solve problems and share work together in real time.
When am I charged?
Your card is saved securely at checkout via Stripe but is not charged at the time of booking. We charge it 48 hours after the tutor marks the session complete. This gives you time to raise any concerns with us before money changes hands. If you book several sessions in one go, each one is charged separately as it takes place, following the same 48-hour window. Full details are in our Booking & Payments policy and Terms.
What if we need to cancel or reschedule?
You can propose a reschedule at any time, and you and the tutor agree a new slot together. Cancelling 24 hours or more before the session is free of charge. Less than 24 hours' notice incurs the full session fee to compensate the tutor for the reserved time. If the tutor cancels, you're never charged. The full policy is on our Booking & Cancellations page.
How are sessions delivered, and are they recorded?
Sessions take place over our secure video platform. Your child can join straight from their browser, with no installs needed. Sessions are not recorded by default. Tutors are required to keep a professional environment and follow our code of conduct throughout. See our Safeguarding policy for the full rules.
How do you choose the right tutor for my child?
Matches are made with care, based on subject knowledge as well as personality, confidence, learning style and what your child needs to thrive.

Who will teach my child?
Every tutor who works with Ashcroft Tutoring Agency holds an enhanced DBS check and has been interviewed by Rebecca. Every tutor holds Qualified Teacher Status and has trained and qualified in the United Kingdom. The vast majority are GCSE or A-Level examiners. We look for calm, qualified experts who care about helping young people achieve and believe in themselves.
